Risks of Surgery
All major surgical procedures have risks. The vast majority can be anticipated and avoided. Prosthetic infection remains one of the most challenging complications of total joint arthroplasty. Infection of the joint occurs in less than 1% of patients. Some of the other possible complications include blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, and nerve injury. Post surgical risks may include peri-prosthetic fractures, loss of motion and instability.
